Down With Due Dates
I admit it. I have a love/hate relationship with social media. I love that it allows me to have a window into the lives of my long distance friends and family, but let’s be honest. It can be a total time suck. I love watching my friends post their pregnancy announcements, ultrasound pictures, and their growing bellies. Unfortunately, it seems that eventually their friends get tired of waiting and begin to stalk their pages and comment. Boy do they comment!
o pregnant person wants to hear this stuff. They want to hear how great they look and how amazing are. They you to remember that no matter how excited you are to meet her baby, no one is more excited than them. They want you to ask what you can do to help once the baby does come and be ready to bring them food and wash their dishes. Am I right?
I say, let’s do away with due dates! Ok, maybe that’s a little drastic. There are actual reasons to have a due date and your care provider needs to know it and so does your Doula, but don’t worry, we won’t tell if you won’t. Instead of telling people your due date (which is really more of a “guess date” anyway), try telling them your due month. You could tell them, “I’m due around (insert close holiday)” or “I’m due towards the end of insert your due month” or whatever time frame applies. This way, they won’t remember to start hounding you or scaring you with talk of induction as your “due date” approaches.
You’ll thank me later.
